Film Grains: Deadpool (2016)

Anticipation: 5/5    The buzz and hype surrounding Deadpool has becoming deafening!

Final Verdict: 3.5/5    Deadpool is exactly as advertised. Nothing more, but definitely nothing less. VERY FUN, but ultimately forgettable.

Deadpool was a labor of love for everyone involved in making the movie. What makes it fun is that the love seeps off the screen and into the audiences’ seats. The violence (and sex!) is brutal, the banter and jokes are funny and vulgar and the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the cast, but especially Morena Baccarin, is entertainingly palpable.

What makes Deadpool forgettable is that it’s a little too generic in terms of plot. It’s essentially a damsel in distress story (Vanessa doesn’t look like Snow White at all in that glass case?  Oh well…) with the added bonus of being morality tale about the prince not needing good looks if he’s found true love. Does that sound like a metaphor for the film itself? Perhaps?

But, I’ve always liked Deadpool as a character and finally seeing him brought to life by the right people really makes the movie worth seeing. Fan service at its best!

I see that we agree on the weak story. I don’t know much about Cable but it does sounds like an interesting way of going forward.

    1. Yeah, Cable is definitely the way to go. Nathan Summers is an interesting character being the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a Jean Grey clone) from the X-Men. Here is a link to his bio: http://marvel.com/universe/Cable. Deadpool and Cable initially met because Deadpool was sent to kill him (check the 2004 series Cable and Deadpool #1-6 story arc called “If Looks Could Kill” for their history:))

Whoa, that’s a lot of info. I’m definitely going to have a serious sit down and read all about Cable. You seem to be in the know man, I like your style.
